BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion the University of Southern California remains the undisputed top team in the country as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Week 6/February 27 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain No. 1 status in their respective rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2019 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 6/February 27)

The University of Southern California, which captured the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, retains the title of top-ranked team in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

Changes occur from near the top to the final spot in this week’s Top 25 as USC (100 points) and Stanford University (96 points) remain at No. 1 and 2, respectively, while the University of California (92 points) surpasses the University of California-Los Angeles (88 points) to take over at No. 3.  UCLA drops back to No. 4 with the University of Hawaii (84 points) sticking at No. 5 for another week.  University of the Pacific (80 points) ascends four places to take over at No. 6 and drive the quartet of the University of Michigan (76 points), the University of California-Irvine (70 points), Arizona State University (69 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (64 points) back to No. 7-to-10.

The University of California-Davis (59 points) and Loyola Marymount University (57 points) remain at No. 11 and 12 with Fresno State University (48 points) and the University of California-San Diego (40 points) rising to No. 13 and 14.

The No. 15 position is a three-way tie as Harvard University (39 points), Wagner College (39 points) and Long Beach State University (39 points) rate in a trifecta with Princeton University (35 points) and San Jose State University (34 points) sliding to No. 18 and 19.

Indiana University (26 points), Marist College (19 points), San Diego State University (16 points) and California State University-Northridge (13 points) stand at No. 20-to-23 with the duo of Bucknell University (7 points) and California Baptist University (7 points) concluding the Top 25 in a tie for the final spot.

2019 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 6/February 27)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues to hold the top spot in the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (99 points) lead a Top 10 which experiences minor changes from the Week 5/February 20 voting.

California Lutheran University (96 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (90 points), Whittier College (83 points), Chapman University (78 points), the University of Redlands (76 points), the University of La Verne (72 points), Macalester College (64 points) and Occidental College (49 points) retain the No. 2-to-9 berths with Connecticut College (23 points) and Monmouth College (23 points) tying for the final slot in the Top 10.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 (Week 6/February 27)

Harvard University (93 points), Princeton University (92 points), Bucknell University (85 points), Brown University (80 points) and George Washington University (75 points), Saint Francis University (70 points), Macalester College (65 points) and Connecticut College (47 points) remain at No. 2-to-9 with Monmouth College (46 points) cracking the Top 10 in the final spot.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 6/February 27)

Macalester College, which captured the 2017 and 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships, retains its rating at No. 1 in the CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (100 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, is now a unanimous top pick as the Scots hold an 11 point lead over No. 2 Connecticut (89 points).

Monmouth College (88 points) nips at the heels of the Camels as the Fighting Scots fall one point shy of ranking in the runner-up spot after standing at No. 5 last week. 

Washington & Jefferson College (70 points) stays at No. 4 with Carthage College (50 points) completing the rankings.
