2021 Men’s Collegiate Club Great Lakes Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Men’s Collegiate Club Great Lakes Division schedule.
Comprised of Grand Valley State University, Illinois State University, Miami University (Ohio), Northwestern University, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Washington University in St. Louis, the Great Lakes Division will contest its 21st season as part of the Collegiate Water Polo Association. In the history of the division, Iowa State University (1997), Western Illinois University (1998), Grand Valley State (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2016), the University of Illinois-Chicago (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015), The Ohio State University (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018) and Notre Dame (2019) have all claimed at least one championship. The 2020 season was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The regular season will be conducted exclusively at Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, as the Irish host 14 games on Saturday-Sunday, September 25-26, prior to repeating the feat on Saturday-Sunday, October 9-10, at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
A division championship tournament is tentatively scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, October 23-24, in the Gateway City of St. Louis at Washington University in St. Louis. However, the championship remains tentative and could be canceled.
If the championship is not possible, qualification for the respective National Championships (Division III/National Collegiate Club) will be based on regular season win/loss records with the fifth best team qualifying for the National Invitational Championship.
The victor of the division earns an automatic berth to the 2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship slated to be hosted by the University of Alabama at the Huntsville Aquatic Center in Huntsville, Ala., on Friday-Sunday, November 12-14. Washington – as the lone Division III institution in the Great Lakes Division – retains the right to attend the Men’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship on Saturday-Sunday, October 30-31, at a site to be announced. If Washington claims the division crown and selects to attend the Division III Championship, the runner-up from the Great Lakes Division advances to the National Collegiate Club Championship.
