2022 Men’s Collegiate Club Atlantic Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2022 Men’s Collegiate Club Atlantic Division schedule.
Comprised of Georgetown University, James Madison University, the United States Naval Academy and the University of Maryland in the Northern Region, along with North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, the University of Virginia and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) in the Southern Region, the Atlantic Division will contest its 22nd season of competition with the University of Richmond (2000), Georgetown (2001, 2002, 2005), Virginia (2003, 2021), North Carolina-Chapel Hill (2004, 2010, 2011, 2012), Virginia Tech (2006, 2007, 2009, 2017), Duke University (2008, 2014, 2016), Maryland (2013, 2015) and Navy (2018, 2019) previously claiming titles. The 2020 season was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Competition begins on Saturday-Sunday, September 24-25, at UNC-Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C., with 10 games in the Southern Region, while James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va., hosts eight Northern Region contests.
A week later, regular season Northern Region competition concludes with eight games at Maryland in College Park, Md., on Saturday-Sunday, October 1-2.
The Southern Region regular season docket wraps-up on Saturday-Sunday, October 15-16, as North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C., hosts 10 games.
The top two teams from each region qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/Atlantic “A” Championship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa., and Villanova University in Villanova, Pa., on the weekend of Saturday-Sunday, October 22-23, against the top four teams from the Mid-Atlantic “A” group.
The remaining five teams in the division compete at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa., on Saturday-Sunday, October 22-23, against the No. 5, 6 and 7 teams from the Mid-Atlantic “A” in the Atlantic/Mid-Atlantic “B” Championship.
The top finishing Atlantic Division team at the Atlantic/Mid-Atlantic “A” Championship earns an automatic berth to the 2022 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship set for a site in the Northwest Division on Friday-Sunday, November 11-13.
The top team from the mid-ranks of the Atlantic Division also claims a postseason opportunity as the team can compete in the National Invitational at a site and on a date to be determined.
