BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2022 Men’s Collegiate Club New York Division schedule.
Comprised of Binghamton University, Columbia University, Cornell University, New York University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Syracuse University, the United States Coast Guard Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the United States Military Academy and the University of Buffalo, the division will contest its 27th season of competition in 2022. Historically, the New York Division has been captured by Army (1995, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), the Rochester Institute of Technology (1996), the University of Rochester (1996), Cornell (2000, 2012, 2013, 2014), Colgate University (2003, 2005), Merchant Marine (2004), Columbia (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015), NYU (2007) and Cornell (2021). The 2020 season was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Regular season competition will occur on two weekends as Army hosts 22 games on Saturday-Sunday, September 24-25, in West Point, N.Y., while Buffalo (six games, Buffalo, N.Y.) and RPI (12 games, Troy, N.Y.) serve as the site for the final 18 games on Saturday-Sunday, October 15-16.
The New York Division Championship is currently slated to be a 10-team, 15-game event on Saturday-Sunday, October 29-30 at RPI. However, the Division III National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by Colby College in Waterville, Maine, is also slated to occur on October 29-30. Due to this fact, the top finishing Division III team within the division will have their choice of going to the New York Division Championship or the Division III National Collegiate Club Championship . If no Division III team elects to go to Nationals, the schedule will remain a 10-team affair. If a team does plan to attend, the championship schedule will be revised to a nine-team format.
For the Division III Championship, the top Division III team based on their record against other Division III teams in the division will qualify. To determine advancement for any teams tied in record, head-to-head results will be the first tiebreaker, followed by goal differential against the highest seeded common opponent.
The victor of the New York Division Championship earns the group’s automatic berth to the 2022 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship on November 11-13 at a site to be determined.
