BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2024 Week 1/January 24 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

The question of the top team in the county is answered this week as defending National Champion Stanford University falls out of a tie with the University of Southern California leaving the Trojans as the unanimous top team in the nation. Pomona-Pitzer Colleges retain unanimous top billing in the Division III Top 10 voting.

2023 CWPA Division I (Princeton University) and Division III (Augustana College) champions remain at No. 1 in the  CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls, respectively.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesdays during the 2024 season.

2024 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 1/January 24)

The University of Southern California acquires unanimous custody of the top spot in the 2024 Week 1/January 24 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Trojans (100 points) climb to the No. 1 position after previously tying with 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion Stanford University in the Preseason Poll’s lead berth.

The University of California-Los Angeles (94 points) and the University of California (92 points) move up to No. 2 and 3 with the University of Hawaii (90 points) rising to No. 4.  Fresno State University (83 points), the University of California-Irvine (79 points), Stanford (78 points), Long Beach State University (71 points), Princeton University (69 points) and the University of California-San Diego (63 points) complete the Top 10.

The University of Michigan (55 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (53 points), Arizona State University (47 points), the University of California-Davis (46 points) and University of the Pacific (42 points) stand at No. 11-to-15, with Indiana University (41 points), Harvard University (39 points), San Jose State University (33 points), Loyola Marymount University (32 points) and Wagner College (26 points) rate at No. 16-to-20.

California State University-Northridge (21 points), Long Island University (17 points), San Diego State University (13 points), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (6 points) and Biola University (5 points) complete the Top 25.

2024 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 1/January 24)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges stays at No. 1 in the 2024 Week 1/January 24 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points) remains a unanimous top selection with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (95 points), California Lutheran University (89 points), the University of Redlands (83 points), the University of La Verne (80 points) completing a continued All-California Top Five.

Augustana College (77 points), Chapman University (70 points) and Whittier College (62 points) stay at No. 6-to-8 with Austin College (50 points) and Macalester College (45 points) trading the No. 9 and 10 slots.

2024 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 5 (Week 1/January 24)

Defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion Princeton University is the league favorite by a single point over the University Michigan in the 2024 Week 1/January 24 CWPA Division I Top Five Poll.

The 2000, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2023 league champion Tigers (97 points) see their margin versus 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 league champion Michigan (96 points) shrink to a single point after holding a 98-to-96 edge in the preseason voting. 2022 and 2023 CWPA Championship runner-up Harvard University (92 points) and Brown University (68 points) hold tight at No. 3 and 4 for another week.

The No. 5 position experiences a change with Saint Francis University (65 points) breaking a tie for the final position in the poll with Bucknell University (32 points) to gain sole possession of the spot.

2024 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 5 (Week 1/January 24)

2023 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Augustana College is the top-ranked program in the 2024 Week 1/January 24 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

The Vikings (100 points) become a unanimous top pick and hold an eight-point margin compared to 2021 and 2022 CWPA Division III Champion Austin College (92 points).  The Kangaroos jump up to No. 2 by dislodging 2017, 2018 and 2019 CWPA Division III Champion Macalester College (91 points).

Connecticut College (68 points) and Carthage College (67 points) exchange the No. 4 and 5 slots to conclude the rankings.
