BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2025 Week 1/January 22 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Defending National Champion the University of California-Los Angeles remains at No. 1 in the National Top 25 rankings, while Pomona-Pitzer Colleges – which garnered the 2024 USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship – is favored to repeat in the Division III Top 10 balloting.

2024 CWPA Division I (Princeton University) and Division III (Augustana College) champions retain their preseason rankings No. 1 in the  CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls, respectively.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from around the country based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during the season starting the Wednesday following the first regular season contest.

2025 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 1)

The University of California-Los Angeles continues to reign at No. 1 in the Week 1/January 22 2025 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Bruins (99 points) expand their lead to two points over Stanford University (97 points) for the top spot with the University of Southern California (91 points), the University of California (89 points) and the University of Hawaii (83 points) following at No. 3-to-5, respectively.

The first change comes at No. 6 as Princeton University (76 points) breaks a preseason tie the University of California-Irvine (75 points) to acquire sole custody of the position.  Long Beach State University (74 points), Fresno State (70 points) and Loyola Marymount University (64 points) remain in their previous positions to again round out the Top 10.

Indiana University (57 points) hangs on at No. 11, while the quartet of Arizona State University (54 points), the University of Michigan (50 points) and the University of California-San Diego (48 points) exchange the No. 12-to-14 slots.

The University of California-Davis (47 points) and California State University-Northridge (38 points) remain at No. 15 and 16, while San Jose State University (32 points) moves in front of the University of California-Santa Barbara (32 points) to take over at No. 17.

San Diego State University (24 points) climbs four positions to assume the No. 19 berth with University of the Pacific (21 points), Harvard University (21 points), Wagner College (20 points), Brown University (15 points), Long Island University (9 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (4 points) concluding the Week 1 Top 25.

2025 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 1)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges stays at No. 1 in the Week 1/January 22 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer (99 points) expands is lead to three points over runner-up Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (96 points) with California Lutheran University (88 points), Chapman University (87 points) and the University of La Verne (77 points) continuing at No. 3-to-5, respectively.

Augustana College (69 points) moves in front of Whittier College (68 points) with Macalester College (65 points), the University of Redlands (48 points) and Austin College (40 points) once again completing the Top 10.

2025 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 5 (Week 1)

Defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion Princeton University remains the early season favorite to capture another title in 2025 as the Tigers preserve the No. 1 spot in the Week 1/January 22 CWPA Division I Top Five Poll.

The 2000, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2023 and 2024 league champion Tigers (98 points) hold a retain a three-point margin over 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 league champion the University of Michigan (95 points) for the lead position.  Brown University (90 points), Harvard University (87 points) and Bucknell University (48 points) round out the remainder of the Top Five.

2023 and 2024 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Augustana College is the top-ranked program in the Week 1/January 22 2025 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

The Vikings (100 points) hold onto unanimous favorite status with 2017, 2018 and 2019 CWPA Division III Champion Macalester College (92 points) and 2021 and 2022 CWPA Division III Champion Austin College (92 points) remaining deadlocked at No. 2.

Washington & Jefferson College (69 points) and Carthage College (65 points) rate at No. 4 and 5, respectively.
