BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) will stream live all 30-games of the 2017 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship on Friday-Sunday, May 5-7, at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Broadcast on a Pay-Per-View basis, fans can access the games through the CWPA Portal on the Stretch Internet platform.
The CWPA is offering the streaming at a cost of $10 per game or $25 for a weekend pass that allows viewers to watch every game from the comfort of their home or office. In addition, each game will be archived so that fans can catch up on the action if they miss a game.
Unlike past seasons and collegiate events broadcast by other conferences and institutions, the Collegiate Water Polo Association continues to innovate in the field. The first water polo conference to provide live-streaming coverage of its championships, the CWPA has been recognized as the leader in live-streaming event coverage of water polo over the past several seasons.
Featuring representatives from 15 of the league’s divisions (Atlantic, Big Ten, Heartland, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, New England, New York, North Atlantic, Northwest, Pacific Coast, Rocky Mountain, Sierra Pacific, Southeast, Southwest, Texas), along with either the host Panthers or the runner-up in the Mid-Atlantic Division if Pittsburgh claims the division title, the tournament features 30-games over three days to decide which collegiate club program is the best in the nation.
Seeds for the championship are based on the results of the 2016 National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of California-Santa Cruz, with the Pacific Coast Division claiming the No. 1 spot due to the University of California-Santa Barbara winning the National Championship a year back.
The tournament is not seeded by ability, since there is no equitable means to determine the respective strength of the teams. Too few teams play outside of their division schedules to be able to create an accurate seeding. Match-ups are therefore based upon the 2016 National Collegiate Club Championship results by division. The host region receives two automatic bids, one of which is assumed by the division champion and the other by the host site or division runner-up (the 16th position). This ensures the tournament host is always a participant.
The first 13 spots in the field match the 2016 final standings. The No. 14 position is awarded to the North Atlantic Division based on a random draw between the two divisions (North Atlantic, Heartland) that tied for 15th in 2016. The No. 15 position is awarded to the Heartland Division.
Fans attending the event can pay for either a three-day tournament pass ($25) or a one-day pass ($10) for the league’s penultimate club championship. Pittsburgh students, faculty and staff with a valid college ID, and senior citizens 65 and older, will be admitted at discounted prices of $10 (tournament pass) and $5 (one-day pass). All children 12 and under are free of charge.
All tickets are exclusively available at the door as there will be no presale in advance of the championship.
In addition to the championship coverage via the Internet, the CWPA offers DVD copies of every game at the championship on site for fan purchase. Fans attending the championship can find out more information about the DVD packages offered by the league at the concessions table during the championship. Fans unable to attend the event who wish to acquire DVDs can do so by emailing membership@collegiatewaterpolo.org with the games they wish to have copied and shipped.
