BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) is set to celebrate National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Week, which begins this Monday, April 13, and runs until Sunday, April 19.
However, due to the CWPA’s unique position of overseeing varsity and collegiate club programs at Division III institutions, the league celebrates all of the league’s small college membership around the country in either the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference, the Northeast Water Polo Conference, the collegiate club ranks or the women’s CWPA Division III ranks.
The NCAA points out that, “Passion and sportsmanship are attributes of the ‘athlete” in the Division III ‘student-athlete’ paradigm. The ‘athlete’ plays for the love of the game, strives for excellence in all facets of life and perseveres through adversity.”
Due to this the CWPA is commencing the week by requesting its members to participate in small acts of kindness and service to their local communities, while maintaining responsible social-distancing at home. In addition, the league office is asking for teams and individual athletes to have their activities and the story of what makes competing in the CWPA unique shared through various means.
Some suggestions include: creating a video highlighting their experience as a Division III athlete or emailing in what makes the experience of competing on the Division III ranks in the Collegiate Water Polo Association rewarding. Submissions can be sent in to haas@collegiatewaterpolo.org and the league will get the information up on the website.
