BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Connecticut College’s Maria Sell (Sr., San Mateo, Calif./Aragon) racked up 15 goals, nine assists, 10 steals, a field block and nine drawn exclusions during a 4-3 weekend on the West and East Coasts to earn recognition as the March 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Player of the Week.

A first-time weekly award recipient from the league office, Sell started the week by notching a goal and two assists on offense along with a save and four goals allowed in 16:40 between the pipes in a 7-6 victory at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif., on Monday, March 13.  A day later, she chipped in a goal, three assists, a drawn exclusion and a steal along with three saves and six goals against in eight minutes of play in cage during a 19-11 loss at Division III No. 10-ranked the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif.  She concluded the Camels’ West Coast trip with four goals in a 20-4 loss to Division III No. 9 Chapman University on Wednesday, March 15.

Back on the East Coast for the CWPA Division III-East Region opening tournament at Penn State Behrend on Saturday-Sunday, March 18-19, she scored twice versus Washington & Jefferson College in a 13-11 loss and added five more tallies in a 17-16 victory over the host Lions on the first day of competition.  On Sunday, March 19, she added a pair of markers in a 17-13 win versus Grove City College before aiding her team in a 12-9 handling of Utica University.
