BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The CWPA Remote series returns with the fifth of the “Lost Episodes” recorded during the COVID-19 outbreak as Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Hall of Fame member George Gross, Jr., talks with former Johns Hopkins University athlete John Wilson. The video was filmed during the COVD-19 outbreak (approx. 2020).

A 2002 graduate of a Masters in Engineering with specialization in Translational Medicine from the University of California-Berkeley and the University of San Francisco, Wilson’s work has been involved in all areas of computer science.

A 2014 graduate of the Menlo School and a 2018 graduate of JHU with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, he has worked as a Software Engineering Intern with Genentech (June 2015-to-August 2015; June 2016-to-August 2016) and DNAnexus (June 2017-to-August 2017), a Bioinformatics Software Engineer with Personal Genome Diagnostics (August 2018-to-June 2020) and Natera (June 2020-to-April 2021), a Senior Bioinformatics Software Engineer with Personalis (April 2021-to-August 2024) and most recently an Agent Engineer for Sierra (February 2025-to-present).

During his professional career, the Hillsborough, Calif., native returned to Baltimore in 2019 to serve as an assistant for the Blue Jays’ water polo program through the conclusion of the COVID-19 abbreviated 2020 campaign.

A three-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Division III All-America selection (2015, 2017: Second Team; 2016: Honorable Mention) to rate as the lone three-time All-America goalie in program history and is one of seven JHU players overall to achieve a trio of of All-America nods, Wilson is the program’s all-time career (902), season (373) and game (25) saves leader.

Wilson led Hopkins to 56 wins in his career, including a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships and runner-up finishes at both the CWPA Southern and Eastern Championships.
