BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) alumni Ashleigh Johnson of Princeton University, Bronwen Knox of Hartwick College, Shae Fournier and Jessica Gaudreault of Indiana University along with current University of Michigan standout Maddy Steere (Jr., Pascoe Vale, Australia/St. Catherine’s School) and official Michael Goldenberg all factored on Day 1 of women’s competition at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, Korea, on Sunday, July 14.

In first day action, Johnson and the United States National Team defeated New Zealand by a 22-3 count, while Fournier and Gaudreault helped Canada in an 18-10 loss to Russia.  Steere and Knox aided Australia’s cause in a 10-8 loss to Italy.

Goldenberg officiated an 8-6 victory by China over Japan in women’s action on July 14 and later returned to the pool on Monday, July 15, to cover a 9-9 tie between Japan and Germany in men’s competition.
