BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) alumni Ashleigh Johnson of Princeton University, Bronwen Knox of Hartwick College, Shae Fournier and Jessica Gaudreault of Indiana University along with current University of Michigan standout Maddy Steere (Jr., Pascoe Vale, Australia/St. Catherine’s School) and official Michael Goldenberg played a part on Day 2 of women’s competition at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, Korea, on Tuesday, July 16.

Johnson and the United States National Team knocked off the Netherlands in Bracket A competition with a 22-9 victory.  The win moves Team USA to 2-0 as the squad previously upended New Zealand, 22-3.

Fournier scored three times to help Gaudreault and Canada in a 15-14 loss to Hungary as the Canadians fell to 0-2 in Bracket B.  Canada previously suffered an 18-10 setback against Russia.

Knox scored once as Australia and Steere topped China by a 14-12 score in Bracket D.  The victory evens Australia’s record at 1-1 as the team fell to Italy, 10-8, in both programs’ tournament opener.

Goldenberg officiated the Australia-China game  It marked his third assignment at the FINA Championships following an 8-6 victory by China over Japan in women’s action on July 14 and 9-9 tie between Japan and Germany in men’s competition on Monday, July 15.
