ERIE, Pa. — Division III No. 10-ranked Washington & Jefferson College tripped La Salle University, 7-6, and fell to Mercyhurst University, 14-7, and Gannon University, 12-7, at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, February 25-26.

The Presidents began their 2017 season by downing La Salle, 7-6, on February 25.

Chloe Magyari (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) led the Presidents’ offense with three goals in the game, scoring twice in the second quarter and once in the fourth.

Madison Nervig (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), Tess O’Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Brittney Patterson (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Liz Klock (New Lennox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) all scored one goal to round out the first game scoring for W&J. Patterson and Klock scored in the third quarter while Nervig and O’Neill netted their scores in the third.

W&J fell in its second game of the program’s opening day, 14-7, to Mercyhurst.

Patterson and Kirsten Yatsko (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) both tallied two goals for the Presidents’ offense. Patterson scored both of her goals in the fourth quarter and Yatsko scored in the second and third quarters.

Magyari and O’Neill contributed one goal for the Presidents. Ally Hopkins (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) played all four quarters as the netminder and made three saves.

Washington & Jefferson kicked off its second day of competition with a 15-6 exhibition win over the women’s collegiate club team from Lindenwood University.

Nervig led the offense with four goals in the game, two in the second quarter and two in the third, while Magyari and Klock each recorded a hat trick. Magyari scored once in the first, second and third quarters and Klock scored once in the first and twice in the second.

Patterson and Sarah Latzo (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) both scored twice and Lexie Gartner (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) tallied a goal to round out the scoring. The Presidents used a 7-0 run from the second to third quarter to put the game away.

The Presidents concluded their opening weekend with a 12-7 loss to Gannon.

Magyari added a second hat trick on the weekend to pace the Presidents’ offense.

Patterson added two goals and Klock contributed another, while O’Neill assisted on a score. Hopkins made eight saves in goal as she played all four quarters.
