MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Due to medical concerns causing a lack of players, Division III No. 4-ranked the United States Coast Guard Academy of the Colonial Division claims a 5-0 forfeit win over Division III No. 3/Heartland Division Champion Grinnell College in the consolation round of the 2018 Men’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship hosted by Wesleyan University.
The forfeit drops Grinnell into the Seventh Place game at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, against Division III No. 8 Carnegie Mellon University of the Mid-Atlantic Division. Due to the loss, Grinnell is guaranteed to at best tie its lowest finish at the Division III Club Championship as the team previously placed Second (2007), Third (2001, 2015), Fourth (2003, 2011), Fifth (2004, 2009), Sixth (2002, 2008, 2016) and Seventh (2013, 2014).
Coast Guard advances to the Fifth Place game at 12:45 p.m. on October 28 against the host Cardinals of Wesleyan. In the history of the event, the Bears have previously placed Fourth (2008), Sixth (2012) and Seventh (2017) as Coast Guard is guaranteed to at worst tie its second best performance at the event.
