MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Jake Bradley (Jr., Turlock, Calif.) scored five goals to notch Player of the Game recognition and Zach Kayser (Jr., Oak Park, Ill.) pumped in four more as the Division III No. 4-ranked United States Coast Guard Academy overpowered host Wesleyan University, 20-9, in the Fifth Place game of the 2018 Men’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship.
The Bears never trailed in opening up leads of 7-1, 10-7 and 18-7 by the conclusion of the first, second and third quarters, respectively, as Coast Guard sailed to victory.
Alexander Hwang (Fr., University Place, Wash.) scored three times and the duo of Austin Brown (Jr., Fall River, Mass.) and Miguel Hernandez (So., Miami, Fla.) each notched pairs of markers to join Bradley and Kayser in posting multi-goal games. Jarred Jenkinson (Sr., Carthage, N.C.), Pat Ellis (Sr., Cooper City, Fla.), Ray Cerrato (Sr., Melbourne, Fla.) and Satoshi Abe (Jr., Norfolk, Va.) accounted for single strikes as Coast Guard takes Fifth Place for its second best finish of all-time after previously finishing in Fourth (2008 at Villanova University), Sixth (2012 at Middlebury College) and Seventh (2017 at Middlebury) at the Division III Club Championship tournament.
In cage, Owen Kratowicz (Jr., Stafford, Va.) made 10 saves to earn the win.
For Wesleyan, Isaac Thorman scored four times with Alvin Wang and Lauren Conte both adding pairs of goals. Charlie Vogel and Abby Warren tacked on single markers in support of a six-save effort by netminder Garrett Kaufman.
