VILLANOVA, Pa. — Tori Chen (So., San Jose, Calif) scored seven times to collect Player of the Game honors as Division III No. 6-ranked Carnegie Mellon University dealt Division III No. 8 New York University a 14-10 loss in the 2019 Women’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship Third Place Game at Villanova University.
- The Tartans of Carnegie Mellon trailed only once as NYU opened a 1-0 lead with 3:29 left in the first quarter prior to CMU racking up two consecutive tallies to close out the opening frame.
- Tied at two-all with 5:58 on the second quarter clock and three-all with 5:34 to go until halftime, Carnegie Mellon pulled away with three consecutive strikes over the remainder of the half to carry a 6-3 margin into the break.
- New York was never within less than three goals of Carnegie Mellon over the remainder of the game as the Tartans widened the spread to 9-4 and 10-5 before entering the fourth quarter with an 11-7 lead.
- The teams traded scores in over the final seven minutes as NYU moved within 12-9, but could pull no closer in taking a 14-10 setback.
- For CMU, Annalisa Pao (Fr., Seattle, Wash.) and Akari Kumagai (Sr., Rockville, Md.) scored twice to join Chen in posting multi-goal games. Aru Rajeevan (Sr., Cheshire, Conn.), Greta Markey (Fr., Western Springs, Ill.) and Olivia Dube (Fr., Brookline, Mass.) each accounted for solo markers.
- Rachael Moore (Jr., London, U.K.) and Dylan Miller (Gr., Seattle, Wash.) both punched in four goals for NYU in the loss. Delaney Martin (Sr., San Jose, Calif.) and Claire Zhang (Sr., San Jose, Calif.) each chipped in solo tallies.
- CMU finished four-for-eight on man-up chances, while NYU converting on three-of-seven extra-man opportunities.
