PASADENA, Calif. — The Division III No. 6-ranked Macalester College women’s water polo team defeated the California Institute of Technology Beavers, 8-3, at Braun Pool.

Hat-tricks from Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) and Anna Gaisser (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) carried the Scots to the victory. Alice Lemmon (Evanston, Ill. Evanston Township) added two more to round out the scoring for the Scots.

In the first quarter, Palmer-Sammons and Gaisser made it 2-0 less than halfway through the frame, but Caltech leveled it at two-all with six minutes left in the second quarter.

The Scots rattled off six unanswered goals, not conceding until there were just 30 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, to push ahead 5-2 by halftime on the way to a five-score win.

Macalester outshot the Beavers by a 32-20 count and despite going zero-for-six on the power-play dominated possession.

Macalester never allowed more than one goal in a quarter, and senior goalkeeper Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) saved six shots on nine Caltech attempts. The Scots led 5-2 at the half and never looked back.
