BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalkeeper Colin Weaver (Sr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) of Division III No. 6-ranked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) made 46 saves during a 3-1 weekend at Harvard University and Wheaton College during the 2023 Bruno Classic to take the September 4 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Defensive Player of the Week award.

Competing across Cambridge, Mass., at Harvard’s Blodgett Pool on Saturday, September 2, he opened the 2023 season by making 19 saves with a pair of steals in an 11-10 loss to Wagner College.  He returned to the water to stop 10 shots and grab a steal in a 10-6 dispatching of McKendree University.

At Wheaton’s Balfour Natatorium in Norton, Mass., on Sunday, September 3, he picked up a pair of victories.  Against Mercyhurst University, he turned aside 11 scoring attempts, picked off a pair of passes and dished out an assist as the Engineers sank the Lakers, 20-12.  In the weekend finale versus Mount St. Mary’s University, Weaver sewed up his team’s third victory by making six saves with a pair of steals.

The award marks the fifth NWPC Defensive Player of the Week laurel for Weaver as he previously earned recognition in 2022 (September 5, October 17) and 2021 (October 25, December 6).
