LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Division III No. 9-ranked Austin College split the team’s final two games at Occidental College’s DeMandel Aquatics Center as the Kangaroos dropped a 13-9 contest against Division III No. 4 California Lutheran University and engineered a 14-8 victory over the California Institute of Technology.
Facing Cal Lutheran in the early game, the ‘Roos fell behind 5-2 in the first quarter and played even with the Regals to enter halftime trailing 7-4. Cal Lutheran pulled away in the third quarter courtesy a 4-2 scoring advantage prior to Austin chipping away at the final margin by outscoring the Regals 3-2 over the contest’s final eight minutes of competition.
For Austin, Bianca Gallegos (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M./Manzano), Morgan Evans (So., Houston, Texas/Langham Creek), Joslyn Dimitri (So., Couer d’Alene, Idaho/Couer d’Alene), Ashley Chand (Sr., Southlake, Texas/Southlake), Lexy Hulse (Fr., Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), Mikhaela Torres (So., Cypress, Texas/Bridgeland), Camila Diarte (Fr., San Antonio, Texas/Brandeis), Mikayla Arizmendi (Fr., San Antonio, Texas/Harlan) and Sophia King (Fr., Tomball, Texas/Tomball) each scored once.
Katie Knight (four), Miranda Miller (three), Jacqueline Brandon (two) and Megan Findlay (two) posted multi-goal games for Cal Lutheran, while Gianna Garcia and Hudson Geier both chipped in solo markers.
Against Caltech, Austin outscored the Beavers 4-3 and 3-1 in the first two quarters prior to notching 3-2 and 4-2 scoring advantages in the third and fourth quarters in rolling to a six-goal win.
Torres (four), Gallegos (three) and Chand (three) posted hat-tricks for the ‘Roos with Dimitri, Caroline Armstrong (So., Houston Texas/Cy-Fair), McKenna Malone (Jr., Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) and Clara Koenig (Fr., Cypress, Texas/Bridgeland) putting away single strikes.
Mia Mutadich (three), Yolotzin Subidas (two) and Maya Dickson (two) accounted for the majority of Caltech’s offense by combining for seven of the Beavers’ eight goals. Madelyn Gilbert tacked on a solo tally.
