VILLANOVA, Pa. — Enya Gamble (Fr., Wellesley, Mass.) put away three shots to lead six different scorers for Division III No. 9 Grinnell College as the Fireballs burned Division III No. 7 Carleton College, 9-4, in the 2019 Women’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship Fifth Place game at Villanova University.

  • The game marked the fourth meeting of the year between Heartland Division Champion Carleton and runner-up Grinnell.  Carleton claimed a 12-5 win on March 3 at home in Northfield, Minn., during Heartland Division regular season play prior to Grinnell returning the favor with an 8-7 victory on April 6 at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.  Carleton claimed the division title with a 7-4 victory on the road at Grinnell in Grinnell, Iowa, on April 14.
  • Grinnell never trailed in the game against Carleton as the Fireballs opened up a 2-0 lead against the Righteous Babes by the conclusion of the first quarter.  Trailing 3-1 by halftime, Carleton was never able to climb back into the game as Grinnell added another goal to commence the third quarter and outscored the Righteous Babes by a 2-1 count over the remainder of the frame to enter the fourth quarter with a 6-2 scoreboard advantage.
  • Carleton moved back within three goals at 6-3 with 6:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, but back-to-back-to-back strikes by the Fireballs enlarged the margin to 9-3 with 2:42 on the clock.  The Righteous Babes chipped their final deficit down to 9-4 prior to the concluding horn.
  • For Grinnell, Sarah Weltz (So., New York, N.Y.) scored twice to join Gamble in recording multi-goal games.
  • A quartet of Righteous Babes scored once for Carleton as Grace Marshall (Jr., Horsehead, N.Y.), Renay Friendshuh (Sr., Memphis, Mo.), Rebekah Kissel (Jr., Chicago, Ill.) and Marly Schrom (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) found the back of the cage.
  • Carleton shot zero-for-five on advantage chances, including a missed penalty shot with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter.  Grinnell converted on two-of-five man-up opportunities as Weltz (4:35) and Camille Hall (Sr., Deer Park, Wisc.) (3:07) put away six-on-five bids in the fourth quarter.
  • Grinnell’s Bojana Crnomarkovic (Jr., Palatine, Ill.) received a misconduct with 4:23 left in the second quarter.
