CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Division III No. 9-ranked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) fell to Wagner College, 14-13, and No. 11 University of the Pacific, 22-5, at Harvard University’s Blodgett Pool on the final day of the 2026 Bruno Classic.
Against Wagner, the Seahawks held the lead for the majority of the match, as they finished the first quarter with a 5-2 lead. William Ewald and Andras Beleznay got the goals for the Engineers in the quarter.
MIT chipped away at its deficit in the second quarter by outscoring Wagner 4-2. Back-to-back goals from Jake Schweizer and Caspar Lightner made it a one-score game at 7-6 heading into halftime.
Wagner opened the third quarter with a goal, but Rick Lundh converted a six-on-five chance to pull MIT back to within one and Schweizer followed with another man-up strike to tie the match at eight-all with 3:03 on the clock. Harry Colley converted on power-play with 31 seconds left in the third quarter to regain the lead for the Seahawks.
The fourth quarter saw the teams go back-and-forth with four ties in eight minutes of action. Three-straight goals from MIT gave them a 13-12 lead with Lightner’s score at 1:48 providing the Engineers its second lead of the day. Wagner responded with a goal from Nadav Carmon to tie the match and with 39 seconds left Colley scored the game-winner for Wagner.
Lightner and Lundh each racked up hat-tricks in the match, while Kieran Kearns and Ewald led the way with three assists. Beleznay had a team-leading four steals.
Facing Pacific, the Tigers raced out to an 8-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in rolling to victory.
The Tigers held MIT to just a goal from Lundh in the second quarter to build a 12-4 advantage. Lundh also got the only goal for MIT in the third quarter as Pacific went on to take a 17-score victory.
Lundh had two goals and two steals for MIT, while Beleznay, Gill and Schaffer accounted for the remainder. Kearns led the way with two assists.
