Five Gannon University men’s water polo players are among 195 Golden Knights’ student-athletes named 2016-17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athletes.

Brett Rehrer (So., Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills), Kyle Rodewald (Jr., Corona Del Mar, Calif./Corona Del Mar), Michael Squeglia (Sr., Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Thomas Squeglia (Fr., Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Nick Williams (Jr., Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island) collected accolades as Gannon had 45 percent of its department earn the honor, producing 195 scholar-athletes among its 431 student-athletes during the 2016-17 academic year. A student-athlete must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or better to be named a scholar-athlete.

The Gannon athletics department has produced 1,631 PSAC scholar-athletes during its nine years as a member of the PSAC. That figure includes 158 student-athletes during its inaugural season in 2008-09, 161 in 2009-10, 169 in 2010-11, 172 in 2011-12, 182 in 2012-13, 186 in 2013-14, 200 in 2014-15 and 208 in 2015-16.

A total of 2,901 PSAC student-athletes were named scholar-athletes this year. The number represents a new league record, surpassing the previous record of 2,818 set last year. The figure also represents 41 percent of all student-athletes in the PSAC, setting a new league record.
