BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Five members of the Utica University women’s water polo team were among 138 Pioneers’ student-athletes to earn recognition on the 2022 Empire 8 Spring Semester President’s List.
Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester, while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, “Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference.”
Sara Kuiken (Jr., Valley Falls, N.Y./Tamarac), Amelia Laible (Fr., Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), Kimberly Serio (So., Lakeville, N.Y. Livonia), Kelly Waryncia (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Madison West (Fr., Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) all earned recognition for Utica.
The Empire 8’s nine full-time conference members combined for 3,479 student-athletes who earned the award. Overall, 28 percent of all Empire 8 student-athletes received this impressive distinction.
Additionally, 117 teams were acknowledged as Empire 8 Conference All-Academic Teams for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester. Utica’s women’s water polo team was among 16 Pioneers teams to earn the distinction as the squad compiled a 3.36 GPA.
