BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Fordham University’s Balazs Berenyi (Budapest, Hungary/BME Secondary Grammar School) earned one final accolade of his collegiate career as he received recognition as a 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division I Men’s At-Large Academic All-America Second Team selection.
The 2025-26 Academic All-America® At Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
The Men’s At-Large Team has student-athletes from a variety of sports, including water polo, fencing, golf, gymnastics, wrestling, ice hockey, skiing, lacrosse, rifle and volleyball.
The 41st Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA)/Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)/Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) men’s water polo athlete to earn Academic All-America honors since John Friedman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) earned the league’s inaugural honor in 1983, Berenyi is the second Fordham water polo player to receive CSC Academic All-America® honors, joining Ali Arat (2010-11 season) and the second Ram for the 2025-26 season to earn Second Team Academic All-America® honors (Daniel D’Ippolito – Men’s Soccer).
He is one of six men’s water polo athletes around the country to earn CSC Academic All-America honors joining West Temkin (Stanford University – Division I Second Team), Andrej Grgurevic (University of Southern California – Division I Third Team), Forrest Gray (Fresno Pacific University – Division II Third Team), Mark Addison (Augustana College – Division III First Team) and Adam Ivatorov (Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Division III Third Team). Berenyi – who competed in the Mid-Atalntic Waand Ivatorov Temkin competed his inaugural two collegiate seasons as a member of the Princeton University men’s water polo team.
The Rams’ utility player graduated from Fordham this past spring as a Finance major with a 3.97 GPA. A three-time CSC Academic All-District selection and a four-year member of the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team, he was the recipient of the Benedict T. Harter award at the annual Block F Awards, which is presented to the Gabelli School of Business senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions. Earlier in his career, he received the Elite 90™ Award for the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Water Polo Championship, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.
A 2025 ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention pick, Berenyi helped Fordham to four MAWPC Championships and four trips to the National Collegiate Championship over the course of his career. This past season, he started all 30 games, totaling 28 goals, nine assists, 14 steals, and 10 blocks, while earning a spot on the MAWPC All-Championship Second Team. He ended his fine career with 163 goals, 99 assists, 113 steals, and 28 blocks in 129 games. He ranks in the top 15 all-time in goals at Fordham, while his 129 games played are fourth all-time.
