BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Fordham University’s George Papanikolaou (Jr., Athens, Greece/Athens College) registered eight goals, 13 assists, four steals and a pair of blocked shots in a 4-0 weekend for the No. 17-ranked Rams at the Bucknell Invitational hosted by Bucknell University.  For his performance, Papanikolaou is named the September 18 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player of the Week.

A three-time MAWPC Player (2022: September 19, September 28) and one-time Rookie (2021: October 11) of the Week selection, he aided Fordham to finish 4-0 in league competition with victories over the host Bison (14-11 W), Division III No. 8 Johns Hopkins University (21-8 W), Wagner College (14-5 W) and Mount St. Mary’s University (21-11 W).  Overall, the Rams doubled their foes in goals by a total of 70-35 for an average margin of victory over eight goals per contest.

On Saturday, September 16, he netted a hat-trick with a field block in dispatching the host Bison prior to dishing out a career-high seven assists to accompany pairs of goals and steals in handling Johns Hopkins.

Papanikolaou concluded the weekend in Lewisburg, Pa., on Sunday, September 17, by posting two goals, an assist and a pair of steals in a defeat of Wagner before accounting for a goal and five assists in surmounting Mount St. Mary’s.
