BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — George Papanikolaou (Fr., Athens, Greece/Athens College) of No. 16-ranked Fordham University registered nine goals, two assists and seven steals during a 2-0 week to earn recognition as the October 11 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Rookie of the Week.

Papanikolaou, who played for the Greek National Team in addition to competing for Vouliagmeni Nautical Club – a member of the top Greek senior league – is a two-time Rookie of the Week selection after previously claiming laurels on September 13.

Competing in a pair of home MAWPC-East Region league games, he had a career day versus Mount St. Mary’s University on Friday, October 8, posting season-highs in goals (five), assists (two) and points (seven) during a 19-10 victory of the Mountaineers.  He added a season-high five steals to go with four goals in a 15-7 win over George Washington University on Saturday, October 9.

For the season, Papanikolaou is the Rams’ leader in goals (46) and steals (43).
