Former Texas Tech University Player/Coach Trisha Quan Named Assistant Women's Water Polo Coach at Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women’s water program has named Trisha Quan as its new assistant water polo coach.

A former Coast Conference-North Coach of the Year in 2019, Quan was previously head coach of the Foothill College women’s water polo program from 2018-2021, leading the Owls to a Coast Conference – North championship in 2019. She was also an assistant coach at Foothill College from 2008-18.

In all, Quan helped lead the Owls to 13 Coast Conference Championships, 13 Northern California Regionals appearances and seven State Tournament qualifications. Under her guidance, Foothill goalkeepers transferred to play with programs at University of Hawaii, the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), Santa Clara University and Iona College.

She has also been very active in the water polo community over the years, serving as assistant coach of Archbishop Mitty High School girls water polo (2019-present), a volunteer coach of Santa Clara Swim Club Water Polo Team (2017-present) as well as Los Altos United Peacocks Club Director (2010-present).

A Marin County native, Coach Quan graduated from Terra Linda High School in 1999, where she competed on the girls’ varsity water polo, soccer and swim teams. As a sprinter, she helped the TLHS swim team win a league title in 1997.

Between the three sports, Quan earned eight varsity letters, earned water polo All-league honors and NCS Distinguished Scholastic Team honors all four years. For water polo, she earned All-section honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. Quan was also named as the Marin County Athletic League Player of the year for water polo her senior year.

Quan continued her water polo career on the collegiate level at the University of California-Davis, while earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science. She began her coaching career during this time, helping coach Davis Senior High School to consecutive section championships in 2002 and 2003.

After UC Davis, Quan’s educational studies led her to Texas Tech University’s Health Science Center. Here, she continued her passion for water polo by taking the role of coach-player for the TTU club water polo team. Quan graduated in 2006 with a Master’s of Science degree, with honors, in Athletic Training.
