FUKUOKA, Japan — Former University of Michigan athlete Abby Andrews shot two-for-five in 21:49 of action and fellow prior Wolverine Amy Ridge shot zero-for-four in 17:51 as Australia dropped a 16-14 contest to Italy in Fukuoka, Japan, to finish in Fourth Place at the 20th World Aquatics Championships.

Andrews converted on a man-up chance and buried a penalty shot to account for her pair of markers.

Michigan alumna Sofie Pontre ’21 M ’22 did not compete in the game for Australia.

The teams were even throughout the majority of the contest as Italy built a 5-4 by the end of the first quarter, but Australia rallied back to balance the scoreboard at 10-all by halftime.  Italy posted its eventual winning margin in the third quarter by outscoring the Aussies 3-1 prior to both squads denting the twine three times in the fourth quarter for the 16-14 final tally.
