FUKUOKA, Japan — Former University of Michigan athletes Amy Ridge, Abby Andrews and Sofie Pontre ’21 M ’22 combined for a three goals and a pair of field blocks as Australia finished 2-1 in Group A competition at the 20th World Aquatics Championships by recording an 11-7 defeat of China.
Australia – which turned back France by a 10-8 score before taking a 9-5 setback against the United States – will return to the water at 1:00 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, July 22, against Israel with a position in the championship quarterfinals at stake.
Ridge – who competed for Michigan in 2016 – converted on two-of-six shots, including man-up strike, while snagging a pair of steals in 18:15 of playing time.
Andrews – who played for Michigan in 2019 – put away one-of-five shots during 22:17 of action, while Ponte shot zero-for-one in 8:48 of competition.
