BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Four members of the Utica College women’s water polo team are among 109 Pioneers to garner recognition on the Spring 2018 Empire 8 Spring 2018 Presidents’ List. A total of 816 student-athletes from the Empire 8’s nine full-time member and 14 affiliate institutions were recognized for academic excellence.
President’s List recipients must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution.
Health Studies major Ashley Flint (Jr., Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro), undeclared major Daniela Hannah (So., Dalton, Georgia/Northwest Whitfield), Physical Therapy major Rebecca Merrill (So., Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Accounting major Meagan Stanton (Sr., Chemung, N.Y./Waverly) were honored by the Empire 8 for their academic performance.
13 Utica athletic teams were also acknowledged as Empire 8 All-Academic Teams for registering grade-point averages of 3.2 or higher for the semester. The Pioneers’ women’s water polo team (3.31) placed 10th among the 13 teams by finishing behind women’s volleyball (3.55), women’s golf (3.43), men’s hockey (3.42), women’s tennis (3.41), women’s lacrosse (3.40), women’s soccer (3.38), women’s hockey (3.36), field hockey (3.35) and men’s cross country (3.34), while rating in front of women’s swimming & diving (3.29), women’s cross country (3.28) and women’s basketball (3.27).
Overall, a total of 10 CWPA women’s water polo student-athletes garnered recognition as six Hartwick College Hawks are among 69 selections from their school to earn accolades. Further, Hartwick women’s water polo also earned Empire 8 All-Academic Team status for finishing with a 3.31 grade point average.
