ERIE, Pa. Marty Kaverman Jr. (Erie, Pa./McDowell) led eight different Golden Knights with goals as the Gannon University men’s water polo team defeated host Penn State Behrend, 21-11, at the Junker Center. The victory boosted Gannon to 2-7, while Behrend falls to 0-10.

Kaverman finished with career highs of six goals and eight points as the senior added a pair of assists. Freshman Alex Kotskar (Voula, Greece) had three goals and two assists, while Drago Marjanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny (Pa.)) led six players who scored two goals, adding four assists. John Vieira (Erie, Pa/Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy (McDowell)) finished with two goals and three assists.

Marjanovic became the 17th Golden Knight to reach 100 career goals. The senior now has 101 career goals, scoring his 100th midway through the first quarter.

Jacob Hollo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) played all 32 minutes in cage and finished with 11 saves. Gannon outshot Behrend 35-28 and had a .600 shooting percentage compared to .393 for the Lions.

Behrend grabbed a 2-1 lead three minutes into the match, but Gannon scored the next five goals, two by Kaverman, to lead 6-2 after one quarter. Gannon led 9-4 at the half and proceeded to explode for eight goals in the third quarter to expand the lead to 17-7 before keeping pace with the Lions the rest of the way to claim a 10-score victory.
