SALEM, W.Va. — The Gannon University men’s water polo team outscored Washington & Jefferson College in each quarter as the Golden Knights cruised to a 19-6 victory in their opening game of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region play.

Gannon trailed 1-0 to begin the match but rebounded in a big way by scoring 14 of the next 15 goals to go ahead for good.

The Golden Knights held a 7-2 edge in scoring in the first quarter and led 12-2 at halftime.

Gannon outscored W&J 7-4 in the second half on their way to win number nine on the season.

Brett Rehrer (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) earned the win with 15 saves, four steals and a team high six-assists in goal.

Gannon held a 35-34 advantage in shots and went four-for-seven on power-play chances.

Six different players scored two or more goals in the match for Gannon led by Zarko Sadikovic (Nis, Serbia/GTS Neimar) with five goals, while Thomas Squeglia (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) added four. Drago Marjonovic (Fr., Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny) and Rehrer each had four steals each for Gannon and the Golden Knights claimed all four sprints to dominate the contest.

Gannon now owns a 32-13 lead in the all-time series with W&J.
