BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Mercyhurst University, Salem University and Gannon University of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) are among seven teams listed in the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Academic Success Rate (ASR) results released by the NCAA.
A graduation metric developed by the NCAA, the Division II ASR includes transfers into a school in the calculation and removes students who left school while academically eligible. However, because of the division’s partial scholarship financial aid model, the ASR also includes the more than 35,000 non-scholarship student-athletes who enrolled from 2008 through 2011, the four years covered in the most recent data.
The top Division II men’s water polo institution is Mercyhurst as the Lakers post a score of 92. The University of California-San Diego (90), California Baptist University (86), Concordia University Irvine (71) ,Fresno Pacific University (64), Salem (50) and Gannon (47) rate at No. 2-to-7, respectively. McKendree University of the MAWPC is not included in the results as the Bearcats were not a varsity team during the analysis period.
As a whole, men’s water polo holds the seventh best graduation rate at 75% by tying volleyball (75) and rating behind skiing (95), ice hockey (84), tennis (82), fencing (79), golf (78) and swimming (78). Further, men’s water polo ranks ahead of baseball (73), cross country/track (72), soccer (72) lacrosse (70), rifle (63), basketball (59) and football (51).
