ERIE, Pa. — Gannon University exploited 7-4, 7-3 and 8-3 scoring advantages in the first, second and fourth quarters, respectively, to top Mercyhurst University by a 26-14 count at the Hallman Aquatics Center.
The Golden Knights never trailed in the game as the squad utilized five goals in the final three minutes of the first quarter to shatter a two-all tie on the way to a 12-score victory.
Mercyhurst, which outshot Gannon by a 39-to-37 count in the game fell behind and was unable to recover as the Golden Knights swept over the Lakers to acquire a 14-7 lead by halftime. Following a third quarter in which both teams accounted for four goals, Gannon put the contest away by outscoring Mercyhurst by an 8-3 count over the final eight minutes.
For the Golden Knights, Alexandros Kotskar led the way with eight goals and 10 assists. Mateja Zjacic, Peter Markovic, Parker Wilk and Callum Snider-Mills each scored twice, while Nikiforos Liantziris accounted for four goals and three assists. Bator Mohacsi and Hewson Morphy split time in cage as both posted seven saves.
Asher Jones (four goals), Nate Cheney (three goals, three assists), Nate Lutz (three goals, one assist), Caden Stover (two goals), Daniel Goldgisser (one goal) and Elijah Linman (one goal) combined for the Lakers’ 14 goals in support of an eight save performance by goalkeeper Alex Gyde.
