ERIE, Pa. — The Gannon University men’s water polo team defeated Penn State Behrend, 20-7, and Mt. San Antonio College, 25-7, in a home doubleheader.
The Golden Knights opened the home portion of their 2018 schedule in style by claiming Gannon’s second victory of the season against the Lions.
Gannon opened up a 9-1 lead in the first half and never looked back in rolling to the win.
Tony Squeglia and Zarko Sadikovic opened the scoring for the Golden Knights, while Riley Hinkley scored Gannon’s final three goals of the match in the fourth quarter.
The Golden Knights went four-for-eight on powerplay chances and Gannon outscored PSB in each of the first three quarters.
Squeglia and Sadikovic combined to score each of Gannon’s first five goals as seven different players scored for the Golden Knights in the match.
The victory improves Gannon to 45-0 all-time against Penn State Behrend as the team claims its second win over the Lions in 2018 following an 11-6 decision to open the season on September 1.
In an exhibition game, Gannon posted a season-high 25 goals to dispatch Mount San Antonio.
The home team opened the game with a 5-2 lead and never looked back.
Thomas Squeglia opened the scoring for Gannon just 30 seconds into the match and the team rolled to a 12-5 lead by halftime.
Goalkeeper Brett Rehrer scored for the Golden Knights in the third quarter on a long shot and the Golden Knights converted on six-of-11 powerplay chances with a four-for-four conversion rate on five-meter penalties to dominate each aspect of the game.
The game marked the first meeting between Gannon and Mt. San Antonio in the respective histories of the programs.
