BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Dylan Schmitzerle (Fr., Plymouth, Mich./Huron) tallied four goals in his collegiate debut to help Gannon University overpower Mount St. Mary’s University, 26-5, in both teams’ season-opener. For the performance, he earns status as the January 25 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Rookie of the Week.
His two first-period goals helped the Golden Knights build a 7-1 lead after eight minutes as the Golden Knights rolled to victory at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia.
He becomes the first Golden Knights’ athlete to earn Rookie of the Week notice since Jack Donnelly shared the award with Rade Joksimovic of Bucknell University on October 17, 2016. Further, he is the first Gannon player to net the honor outright since Gilberto Milan on October 20, 2014.
