BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Jacob Hollo (So., Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) of Gannon University tallied 23 saves with four steals and a pair of assists during a 2-0 weekend for the Golden Knights in league competition to garner status as the February 8 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week.

A two-time Defensive Player of the Week recipient during the Winter 2020 season after previously claiming the January 25 award, Hollo helped Gannon down host Mount St. Mary’s University (22-10 W) and Mercyhurst University (9-6 W) in the opening league games of the season at the Mountaineers’ Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex (ARCC) in Emmitsburg, Md.

Facing Mount St. Mary’s, Hollo made eight saves with four goals allowed in 20:55 of action to pick-up the win.  He tacked on 15 saves with six goals allowed in a complete game victory over Mercyhurst to conclude the weekend.

The 2019 MAWPC-West Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the MAWPC-West Championship tournament for helping anchor the Golden Knights to the division crown, Hollo is the first Gannon athlete to claim back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week status since the award was created prior to the 2010 season.
