BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Levi Rex of Gannon University earns recognition as the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region Sports Information Director of the Year award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) office.

Selected by the CWPA Director of Communications, the SID of the Year award is presented to individuals who “have achieved notable excellence in the field of water polo communications during the past academic year.”

Gannon’s Director of Social Media and the primary contact for the volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s water polo, women’s basketball, baseball and acrobatics & tumbling teams, Rex’s responsibilities within the Gannon Sports Information Office have also included graphic design work, video production, gameday management and much more over the past two years.

He came to Gannon after spending the previous two years as the graduate assistant sports information director at NCAA Division II Ashland (Ohio) University. The Eagles field 19 intercollegiate teams as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). He served as the primary contact for the women’s soccer, men’s golf, women’s and men’s swimming, women’s tennis and wrestling programs. In addition to handling day-to-day duties, Rex was responsible for graphic design work such as programs and social media gameday graphics as well as video content production. He also maintained Ashland’s social media accounts.

Rex graduated from Ashland in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management, before earning a master’s degree in sports management during the spring of 2016.

The award marks the second honor bestowed exclusively to MAWPC-West Region institutions following the division of the CWPA men’s teams into the MAWPC and Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) during the Summer of 2016.  A member of the conference’s West Region, the Golden Knights competed against Connecticut College, La Salle University, Mercyhurst University, McKendree University, Monmouth College (Ill.), Salem International University and Washington & Jefferson College this year with the champion and runner-up from the MAWPC-West Championship advancing to compete at the MAWPC Championship against East Region members Bucknell University, George Washington University, Fordham University, Johns Hopkins University, the United States Naval Academy and Wagner College for the league crown.

It marks the third time a Gannon SID has been recognized by the league office for their performance following prior nods in 2014 (Women’s Division I SID of the Year:  Will Nowadly) and 2017 (MAWPC-West Region SID: Rex and Dan Teliski).
