BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — George Washington University will add three freshmen and three graduate students to the Colonials’ roster for the upcoming 2022 men’s water polo season.

GW, which returns graduate students DJ Davis (Gr., Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley), Nick Schroeder (Gr., Orinda, Calif./Campolindo), Henry Maas (Gr., San Anselmo, Calif./Marin Academy) and Finn Lillis (Gr., Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Germantown Academy) from the institution’s 2021 roster, adds graduate students from the University of California, Georgetown University and Long Beach State University to strengthen a potent lineup.

In addition, a trio of first-years dot the roster as athletes from Trinidad, Connecticut and Pennsylvania arrive in the nation’s capital.


Peter Durkovic (Fr., Darien, Conn./Darien)

High School
: Part of a U-18 silver-medal squad representing Greenwich Aquatics at the 2021 Junior Olympic Championships in Dallas, Texas…Tabbed to USA Water Polo ODP zone teams in 2018, 2019 and 2020 …Named USA Water Polo All-Academic in 2019-20 and 2020-21…Member of the DECA Club at Darien High School.


Ross Gillette (Fr., Bayshore, Trinidad/Fatima College)
Utility/5′-10″/182 lbs.
Before George Washington:
Represented Trinidad at CARIFTA Water Polo Championships three times (2016, 2017 & 2019)…Helped home country claim U-14 title in 2016…Named Best Defender at 2019  championships as part of runner-up finish…Twice represented Trinidad at the CCCAN Championships (2017 & 2019)…Captained Trinidad squad at the 2019 UANA Pan American Youth Water Polo Championships.


Brendan Page (Fr., Lansdale, Pa./Germantown Academy)
Goalkeeper/5′-11″/225 lbs.
High School: Earned four varsity letters in both water polo and rowing at Germantown Academy…Named Most Valuable Defensive Player and honored on the All Inter-Ac Second Team after senior water polo season in 2021…Received the Coaches’ Award from rowing team in 2021..Received High Honors in each of his last four high school semesters…Honored with the Osborne Award for Ethics in 2022.


Theodoros Pateros (Gr. Glyfada, Greece/Papacharalabeio/Long Beach State University)
Center/6′-0″/205 lbs.
At Long Beach State State (2018-2021): Scored 93 goals across 75 games over three seasons at Long Beach State…Twice helped LBSU to the NCAA Tournament (2018 & 2021)…Scored a career-high 40 goals as a senior in 2021 on way to Gold Coast Conference (GCC) title and berth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship tournament…Garnered GCC All-Tournament Team honors as a rookie in 2018 after helping LBSU earn title…Named to GCC All-Academic Team as a junior and senior…Earned a Finance degree.

Before Long Beach State: Helped Greek National Team to title at 2018 Youth World Championship in Hungary…Also represented homeland at Junior European Championship and Mediterranean Cup in 2017…Helped Vouliagmeni Nautical Club to Greek National Cup title in 2017 and junior national titles in 2016 and 2015…Also represented Olympiacos, Ydraikos Nautical Club and Glyfada Nautical Club.


Mateus Stellet (Gr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Stucum Center D’Estudis/University of California)

California (2018-2021): Four-year member of the Cal program who saw action in all 26 matches as a senior and posted five goals and 27 assists while helping the Golden Bears to win the 2021 national title…Tallied six goals, 14 assists, 13 ejections drawn, eight steals & six field blocks as a rookie in 2018…Closed career with 54 helpers…Was recognized on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team in 2021…Graduated with a degree in Economics.

Before California: Member of the Brazilian Senior National Team was the youngest player at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Hungary at the age of 17…Helped home country win gold at the 2015 Youth Pan American Games…Represented Aquachiara, Flamengo and Barceloneta in club competition…Brother Pedro was a former captain at California.


Michael Wheeler (Gr., Lafayette, Calif./Campolindo/Georgetown University)
Attacker/6′-4″/185 lbs.
At Georgetown (2018-2022):
Four-year member of the Hoyas’ swim program…Ranks in Georgetown’s all-time top 10 in the 200 free, 500 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free and 400 IM…Finished fourth in the 1,650 free (15:24.06) at the Big East Championships as a senior and also qualified for championship finals of the 200 free and 500 free…Competed at the Toyota U.S. Open in December 2019…Won the 1,650 free (15:19.18) at the Big East Championships as a rookie in 2019 and also medaled in the 200 free and 500 free.

High School: Recognized as an All-Diabolo League performer at Campolindo High School as a junior and senior in 2016 and 2017…Named a 2016 USA Water Polo All-Academic selection…Also was a four-year All-League swimming standout who earned NISCA All-America honors…Honored as a Scholar-Athlete each year and graduated as an AP Scholar with Honors…Competed with 680 Water Polo on the club circuit…Was a high school teammate with GW teammate Nick Schroeder.
