BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Alana Ponce (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wash./Gig Harbor) of George Washington University scored 12 goals on 23 shot attempts along with three assists, three field blocks, five steals and a pair of ejections drawn in three games against Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) competition in non-league action hosted by Saint Francis University.  For her performance, Ponce is named the March 26 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week.

She opened the weekend in Loretto, Pa., by lining in seven goals to help the Colonials dispatch the host Red Flash, 15-11, on Saturday, March 24.  Ponce tacked on three goals in an 8-7 overtime loss to No. 25-ranked Bucknell University in the team’s late game on March 24 prior to notching a pair of markers in a 14-7 loss to No. 22 Harvard University on Sunday, March 25.

A three-time weekly honor selection as she was named the February 5 Player of the Week, Ponce made history by joining teammate Dara Bleiberg (Fr., Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) and Marialena Seletopoulou (Fr., Glyfada, Athens, Greece/Yannopoulos School) of Saint Francis in sharing the February 5 Rookie of the Week laurel.  The tri-Rookie of the Week accolade marked first time the league awarded three nods for one weekly honor in the history of the organization.
