BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Andras Levai (Jr., Buadpest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Secondary School) of No. 15-ranked George Washington University tabulated 10 goals, six assists, three steals and two field blocks during a 3-0 weekend for the Colonials in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-East Region action to earn September 30 MAWPC Player of the Week status.

A seven-time weekly honor recipient from the league office following a pair of Player of the Week awards in 2018 (November 12, November 26) following four Rookie of the Week accolades in 2017 (September 11, November 6, November 20, November 27), Levai powered George Washington to road wins at Fordham University (9-8 W), Wagner College (14-8 W) and La Salle University (19-6 W).

His most pivotal performance came in the weekend’s opening contest as he scored five goals, including GW’s final four markers in the fourth quarter, and dished out a pair of assists as the Colonials rallied back to edge the Rams of Fordham by a single goal on Saturday, September 28.

After Fordham took an 8-4 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter, GW reeled off five straight scores to win it.

Andrew Mavis (Sr., Princeton, N.J./The Pennington School) started the run by scoring with 13 seconds left in the third quarter to set the stage for Levai.

The Hungarian hammered home four tallies over the span of four minutes to begin the fourth quarter. He tied the game at eight-all with 4:30 left and then put the Buff and Blue ahead for the first time 22 seconds later. The Colonials locked down from there behind September 30 MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week Matt Taylor (Gr., Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) to hold the Rams scoreless over the final 8:37 and notch a one-goal victory.

Following the come-from-behind heroics in the Bronx, Levai posted two goals and four assists at Wagner later on September 28.

He concluded the trip with three more goals and three steals in taking care of La Salle to cap off a 3-0 MAWPC-East weekend.
