BRIDGEPORT, Pa — Luca Castorina (So., Catania, Sicily Liceo Galileo Galilei) of George Washington University made 21 saves at the Harvard University Mini Invitational to earn a share of the September 20 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week award.

He shares the honor with Wagner College’s Ethan Zirh (Jr., Sydney, Australia Castle Hill High School) who tallied 34 saves with four steals during a 3-1 weekend at the Bucknell University Bison Invitational for the Seahawks.

A two-time Defensive Player of the Week selection after garnering his inaugural recognition on March 1, 2021, Castorina was in top form in a 12-11 overtime win versus Brown University, posting 15 stops, including several big-time blocks in overtime while allowing just one score over the six minutes. He also tallied two steals and an assist in the win to close the twin bill at Blodgett Pool on Saturday, September 18.  Earlier in the day, he posted six saves in a 14-5 loss to the No. 15-ranked/host Crimson.

For the season, Castorina has 103 saves and 113 goals allowed across eight games, good for a .477 save percentage. He has also tallied 13 steals and six assists.
