BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Luca Castorina (So., Catania, Sicily Liceo Galileo Galilei) of George Washington University piled up 36 saves with nine steals and three assists during a 3-0 league weekend to receive the September 27 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week award.

It marks the second time in as many weeks Castorina takes Defensive Player of the Week honors as he shared the September 20 accolade with Wagner College’s Ethan Zirh (Jr., Sydney, Australia Castle Hill High School).

A three-time Defensive Player of the Week selection after garnering his inaugural recognition on March 1, 2021, Castorina made 15 saves at Division III No. 8-ranked Johns Hopkins University in a 12-11 triumph on Friday, September 24, before stopping 11 shots with seven goals allowed in three quarters of work in a 20-13 defeat of Mount St. Mary’s University at home in the Smith Center on Saturday, September 25. On Sunday, September 26, he stymied Bucknell University by posting 10 saves and a career-high five steals while holding the Bison scoreless over the game’s final 10:23.

The netminder has averaged 12.6 saves per game for the season while posting a .506 cumulative save percentage.
