SALEM, W.Va. — Men’s water polo goalie Goran Bakovic is among six athletes and two teams which will be inducted into the Same University Athletics Hall of Fame on October 4 in the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

A 2006 graduate of Salem,, Bakovic holds almost every goalkeeping record in program history as he tops the leader board in career (737), season (326) and single game (25) saves.

In 2004, he helped the team coached by Keith Bullion win the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II Championship and qualify for the CWPA Eastern Championship for the only time in the history of men’s water polo at the school.  The Tigers earned their spot in the league championship tournament by defeating Division I Bucknell University in the Southern Division Third Place game by a 12-6 final score.

A 2004 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Division II First Team All-America, All-Southern Division Second Team selection and CWPA Division II Championship Second Team honoree, he was also honored on the league’s Scholar-Athlete team.  He concluded his career in 2005 with CWPA Division II All-Tournament Second Team honors as the Tigers placed second at the championship.

Bakovic joins a Hall of Fame class that includes David Lee Corsini (baseball/tennis),  Earnest Joseph Schumacher (football), Daryl Pearson (men’s basketball), Nicole Simon (softball) and former Florida State University/current Texas A&M University head football coach John “Jimbo” Fisher (football).  In addition, both the 1984 and 1985 football teams coached by Terry Bowden will be inducted.
