GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Grove City College women’s water polo team split a pair of home Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III matches at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The Wolverines opened the day with a 13-11 victory over Carthage prior to suffering a 23-17 setback versus Division III No. 5-ranked Wittenberg University in the nightcap.

Three Grove City players recorded multi-goal efforts in the day’s opener versus Carthage. Junior Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) fired in five goals to help pace the Wolverines, while sophomore Reese Trauger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored four times. Sophomore Michelle Danley (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) tossed in three markers and junior Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) also scored.

Danley and Trauger both recorded three assists, while Melanson added two assists. Miller, senior Alliefair Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and junior Kyra Johnson (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) all had one assist.

Trauger led the defensive effort with five steals while Miller totaled three steals. Johnson had two thefts. In goal, sophomore Tia Kannel (York, Pa./Central York) stopped 10 shots to earn the victory. She also added an assist.

Six Wolverines scored in the second tilt against Wittenberg. Danley and Trauger both scored five times and Miller posted four goals. Johnson, Melanson and Scalise also scored for Grove City.

Danley recorded a career-high seven assists. Miller recorded three assists while Scalise assisted two goals. Kannel, Melanson and Trauger also tallied assists.

Trauger chalked up three steals to help lead the defensive effort. Johnson, Miller and Scalise each collected two steals. Kannel stopped nine shots.
