WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Grove City College improved to 3-1 in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-East Region action earning a 16-12 defeat of Connecticut College and dropping a 14-12 decision to host Washington & Jefferson College in the weekend’s finale.
Competing at W&J’s Henry Natatorium, junior Reese Trauger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) paced Grove City versus Connecticut by firing in a season-high eight goals. Senior Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) posted four goals while junior Michelle Danley (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) scored three times. Senior Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) added a goal.
Miller recorded a half-dozen assists and Trauger assisted four goals. Freshman Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and junior Tia Kannel (York, Pa./Central York) each tallied two assists. Melanson added an assist.
Trauger also chalked up five steals to help lead the defensive effort. Danley and senior Kyra Johnson (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) both had two steals. Kannel made six saves in goal to secure the win.
Six Grove City players scored in the weekend finale against W&J, led by three-goal outings from Kerr, Melanson and Miller. Danley, Trauger and junior Emory Shepson (Grove City, Pa./Homeschooled) also scored for the Wolverines.
Danley dealt out a team-high six assists while Miller and Trauger both had two assists. Kerr added an assist.
Miller and Trauger both had two steals. Kannel recorded seven saves.
