GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Grove City College women’s water polo team opened its 2020 home schedule with a pair of games against National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II foes at James E. Longnecker Pool. Salem University topped the Wolverines, 23-3, in the day’s opener before Grove City fell to longtime regional foe Gannon University, 19-14.

Junior Tessa Leatherwood (Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant) and freshman Reese Trauger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) both fired in four goals for Grove City against Gannon. Senior Elizabeth Andrews (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) scored three times while freshman Michelle Danley (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) scored twice. Sophomore Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added a goal for the Wolverines.

Danley recorded a team-leading four assists. Sophomore Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) assisted three goals while Andrews and Leatherwood each assisted two goals. Trauger and freshman Tia Kannel (York, Pa./Central York) both tallied assists. 

Leatherwood led the defense with four steals. In goal, junior Alexa Dunn (Girard, Pa./Girard) stopped three shots and added two steals.

Trauger scored twice and Danley added a goal in the opener against Salem. Andrews, Danley and Trauger all had assists. Andrews, Danley and Miller each recorded two steals. Dunn stopped two shots.
