ERIE, Pa. — The Grove City College women’s water polo team closed its five-game, three-day stretch of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III action by earning a 12-11 victory at conference foe Penn State Behrend. Earlier in the day Grove City dropped a 27-9 decision to Division III No. 3-ranked Austin College.

Junior Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) helped lead the Grove City attack against Behrend by firing in four goals. She also assisted on four goals in the victory.

Sophomore Reese Trauger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored three times for Grove City. Junior Kyra Johnson (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) and sophomore Michelle Danley (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) both scored twice, while senior Alliefair Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) also buried a shot.

Johnson, Trauger and junior Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) each tallied two assists. Danley and sophomore goalie Tia Kannel (York, Pa./Central York) both assisted on single markers.

Kannel stopped seven shots to earn her third victory of the season.

Miller also led Grove City’s offense in the opener against Austin as she fired in five goals. Trauger added three goals, along with a team-leading three assists. Melanson also found the back of the cage.

Johnson recorded two assists, while Danley, Kannel, Melanson and Miller each chalked up one assist. Trauger recorded three steals. Kannel made eight saves.
