BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Grove City College trio of Alexa Dunn (So., Girard, Pa./Girard), Elizabeth Andrews (Jr., Newberg, Ore./Newberg) and Tessa Leatherwood (So., Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant) led the Wolverines to a 4-0 mark in league play last week to share honors as the March 11 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week.

The trio aided the Wolverines in downing Washington & Jefferson College (18-9 W), Utica College (20-6 W), Connecticut College (17-11 W) and Penn State Behrend (16-9) during the opening weekend of CWPA Division III-East Region competition at W&J in Washington, Pa.

Dunn made 39 total saves while picking up the victory in each game. She made 10 saves in the win over W&J, then posted 11 saves against Utica. Dunn stopped 10 shots versus Connecticut College, then closed the week with an eight-save, five-steal outing against Penn State Behrend.

Andrews and Leatherwood both excelled at each end of the pool last week.

Andrews recorded 10 steals while anchoring Grove City’s defensive efforts in the two-meter area.  Further, she fired in 19 goals and had eight assists, including a six-goal, three-assist performance in turning back Connecticut College.  She notched four goals in both the W&J and Utica games to accompany a three-score outing versus Penn State Behrend.

Leatherwood tacked on 16 steals, four drawn exclusions, 15 goals and 12 assists in the wins as Grove City moved to 5-5 overall on the season.
