FUKUOKA, Japan — Hartwick College alumna Katie McKenty ’18 was held without a shot in 11:18 of competition as New Zealand experienced a 23-5 setback against Hungary in both teams’ final game of Group D play at the 20th World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
McKenty – who snagged three steals as New Zealand clipped Japan, 17-16, earlier in the event and corralled a steal and took three ejections at center forward during 7:57 of playing time in a 13-11 loss to Canada – aided New Zealand’s cause to allow the team to finish 1-2 in Group D competition.
Courtesy the win, New Zealand advances to the Round of 16 where the team will take on Italy at 4:00 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, July 22, with a berth in the championship quarterfinals on the line.
